I recently took a trip to Goshen, CT and decided to check out this tucked away place called Thorncrest Farm.
This beautiful dairy farm boasts a large barn home to may dairy cows, a small field for the male cows to graze in and an adorable store for customers to purchase milk, t-shirts and of course, artisinal chocolate!
At Thorncrest Farm, the number one priority is the comfort and happiness of the cows. According to the owners, Kimberly and Clint, any sign of stress in the cow’s life shows up in the milk. Kimberly and Clint must ensure that the cows are stress-free and don’t have to worry about anything. There are so many factors that play into the cows’ happiness, such as the position of the barn, the hay they eat or even their neighboring cows! You can be sure that Thorncrest Farm cows are being taken care of and are the number one priority of everyone working on the farm.
Each cow has a specific purpose and a certain product she produces. Each caramel is made with milk from a cow named Daydream, and only Queen’s milk can be used in the making of the “Zesty Lime and Licorice” chocolate. Because only specific cows are used in making certain chocolates, when one takes a break then that chocolate is usually not available. This is why the Milk House, Thorncrest Farm’s mini chocolate shop, has 122 chocolates in rotation year round. Not only does the Milk House provide delicious chocolates, but they also have various milks and cheeses available for purchase.
Thorncrest Farm also hosts cheese making classes for those of all experience levels. In addition, they have farm tours so you can see the part of the farm that is not available to the public.
