The Boqueria, an expansive marketplace right off the famous Barcelonian street La Rambla, is a must-see market packed with every kind of vendor you could imagine. From tomatoes to cheese to eggs to fish, this market has everything one could ever need.
Once you step inside, your senses take over and all you can smell is the fresh aroma from every type of food. I found the fish looked especially fresh like they were just plucked out of the sea, and it was incredible to see all of the different types of clams, crabs and prawns laid out across the ice. The wide variety of fruits and vegetables were all laid out in such a colorful manner. There were even some fruits I had never seen before!
Even though all of the foods were a feast for the eyes, I think my favorite were the eggs. The vendors had all of the eggs laid out on hay and it looked just like mini barns with the fake chickens surrounding the eggs. The eggs were also quite inexpensive selling at 30 eggs for 3 euros! What a steal!
If you plan on visiting this market, here are a few tips that should help you have the best experience possible. First, make plans to visit on a weekday. The market gets extremely crowded on the weekends and it is very difficult to have a good time. Also, make sure to go before noon. There will be no one there and you will have more space to freely roam around. Lastly, I recommend Clemen’s, Fruites i vendures Joana i Carme and Cansaladeria Can Vila as my favorites.
Overall, this incredible market blew me away. Everywhere I looked there were new and exciting foods to see and try. If visiting Barcelona, this is definitely the place to be.
